L.G. Norsworthy

November 3, 1926 - September 27, 2014

L.G. Norsworthy, age 87, passed away, September 27, 2014 at his residence in Campbellton, Florida. Born in Covington County, Alabama on November 3, 1926. A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Mr. L.G. was at the invasion of Okinawa, Japan and also received a World War II Victory Medal. In 1957, he helped build the North American X-15 rocket which still holds the world record for the highest speed ever reached by a manned powered aircraft and the F100 Super Sabre which was the first USAF fighter jet capable of supersonic speed. He drove a gas truck for Amoco and Texaco for 33 years. Mr. L.G. served as Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Campbellton since 1964. He served with the City of Campbellton over 50 years in various capacities including Mayor, Councilman and a Volunteer Fireman. Mr. L.G. loved to fish and mow grass. His love for God was shown through his committment to his family, church and community. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, he was a very humble and caring man, you never had to know his thoughts on anything, he would tell you! Preceded in death by his parents James Garfield and Lillian Goodson Norsworthy; sisters Bessie Langford, Bernice Skipper; brother Jimmy Norsworthy and beloved grandson James Bryan Odom. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years Johnnie "Teny" Ruth Norsworthy; daughter Nancy Odom and husband James Donnie "Jim" Odom; granddaughter Emily Odom; brother Linnard Norsworthy(Sheila); two sisters Faye Deal, Peggy Miles(James); sister-in-law Inda Norsworthy; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Campbellton with Revs. Addis Habbard and Luther Pumphrey officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with Military Honors by Sneads Amercan Legion Post #241, James & Lipford Funeral Home directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials can be made to First Baptist Church of Campbellton P.O. Box 232, Campbellton, FL 32426.
