Mr. Shellie F. Blount, 88 of Slocomb, AL, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Blount, known to his many friends as Shellie, was born in Geneva County, Alabama on December 7, 1921 to the late James Early and Kneely Bell Bedsole Blount. A U.S. Army Veteran, Shellie was a medic in World War II. He retired from farming and the Jackson County School Board. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church for over 45 years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Kathleen, children Charlotte Ann Vanloon of Johnstown, OH, Kenneth Wayne Blount and wife Susan of Slocomb, Stanley Blount and wife Melinda of Lynn Haven, FL; seven grandchildren Shelly Pickard, Jennifer Hall, Ken Blount, Stacie Phillips, Mary Yarbrough, Breanne Blount, Brooks Blount and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Revs. George Chestnut and David Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Flowers accepted or those wishing may make memorials to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
